Adele's '21': Longest-Running No. 1 Album Since 'Purple Rain'

Not unexpectedly, Adele's "21" album spends a 22nd week atop the Billboard 200 chart, selling 297,000 (down 59%) according to Nielsen SoundScan. It's now the longest-running No. 1 since Prince & the Revolution's "Purple Rain" soundtrack scored 24 weeks at No. 1 in 1984 and 1985.


This is also "21's" ninth consecutive week at No. 1 -- the most in-a-row frames at No. 1 since the "Titanic" soundtrack racked 14-straight in 1998.

"21" -- released just over a year ago in the U.S. -- has now sold 7.65 million in the U.S. Of that figure, 1.83 million were shifted in 2012.

Adele has a second album in the top 10 this week, as her first set, "19," descends 4-7 with 39,000 (down 56%).

As this week's sales charts reflect the week (ending Feb. 26) following the busy Grammy Awards-fueled frame (ending Feb. 19), we see a lot of albums collapse in sales after a fast rise last week. Like the two Adele albums or the Civil Wars' "Barton Hollow" (10-31 with 15,000; down 48%) for example.

The late Whitney Houston's "Whitney: the Greatest Hits" holds at No. 2 with 174,000 (down less than 1%). Meanwhile, her single "I Will Always Love You" slides 2-13 on the Digital Songs chart with 101,000 downloads sold (down 72%).

As physical stock of Houston's albums are finally reaching retail outlets, we see some of her older catalog sets make moves up the list. "The Bodyguard" soundtrack, for one, rallies 38-6 (47,000; up 176%) while her "Whitney Houston" album motors 37-9 (30,000; up 72%). Since her death on Feb. 11, the bulk of her album sales have come from digital downloads, as most retailers didn't have physical copies of her albums on-hand.

The band fun. has a banner week on the Billboard 200 as its second album, "Some Nights," debuts at No. 3 with 70,000 sold. Their new album sold almost as much as their last set has sold in total (74,000).

Their debut set, "Aim and Ignite," debuted and peaked at No. 71 on the Billboard 200 in 2009, and has sold 74,000 to date. This week, it re-enters the chart at No. 116 with 5,000 (up 42%).

Fun. is basking in the success of the single "We Are Young" (featuring Janelle Monae), which is featured in Chevy's 2012 Sonic TV commercial. The song sells 291,000 downloads this week, returning it to No. 1 (6-1) on the Digital Songs chart (up 19%).

Back in the top 10, Tyga's debut studio album "Careless World: Rise of the Last King," starts at No. 4 with 61,000. The set's first week release was bungled a bit, courtesy of a sample-clearance issue. A good three or four days of the album's first-week sales were mostly driven by downloads (83% of its total), as the album had to be re-shipped to retailers after its sample of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech was found to be uncleared.

Alternative hip-hop act Chiddy Bang bows in the top 10 with its debut album, "Breakfast," starting at No. 8 with 31,000 -- nearly all of that downloads. The set was exclusively available in the iTunes Store last week, which also offered the album's "Handclaps & Guitars" as its free single of the week. "Breakfast" became available to all retailers on Feb. 28, a week after its iTunes launch.

Rounding out the top 10 on the albums chart this week are "Now 41" (3-5 with 54,000; down 43%) and the "2012 Grammy Nominees" compilation (5-10 with 29,000; down 66%).

Over on the Digital Songs chart, the aforementioned fun. return to No. 1 with "We Are Young" (featuring Janelle Monae) with 291,000 sold (up 19%). Last week's topper, Katy Perry's "Part of Me," falls to No. 4 in its second week with 187,000 (down 55%).

Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" rebounds 5-2 with 241,000 (down 4%) while the Wanted's "Glad You Came" zooms 19-3 with 188,000 (up 87%). The latter's gain is likely owed to the cast of "Glee" covering the tune on the Feb. 21 edition of the Fox series.

Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" slips 4-5 (167,000; down 34%) while B.o.B bounds straight in at No. 6 with "So Good" (164,000). Nicki Minaj's "Starships" is steady at No. 7 for a second week (155,000; down 24%) while Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" (featuring Kimbra) flies into the top 10 -- climbing 17-8 (134,000; up 17%).

LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It" is up one position to No. 9 with 113,000 (down 17%) while Chris Brown's "Turn Up the Music" falls a place to No. 10 in its sophomore frame with 112,000 (down 37%).

Just outside the top 10, Carrie Underwood arrives at No. 12 with her new single "Good Girl," selling 108,000 downloads. It enters the tally after only three days of sales, as it was released on Friday, Feb. 24 -- and the tracking week ended on Sunday, Feb. 26.

Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Feb. 26) totaled 6.31 million units, down 18% compared to the sum last week (7.72 million) and down 3% compared to the comparable sales week of 2011 (6.50 million). Year to date album sales stand at 48.01 million, up 3% compared to the same total at this point last year (46.45 million).

Digital track sales this past week totaled 28.13 million downloads, down 13% compared to last week (32.28 million) and up 6% stacked next to the comparable week of 2011 (26.48 million). Year to date track sales are at 230.92 million, up 7% compared to the same total at this point last year (215.17 million).

Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2011 when: Adele's "21" held at No. 1 for a second week, selling 168,000 (down 52%). Marsha Ambrosious' "Late Nights & Early Mornings" debuted at No. 2 with 96,000.

Guess what, your boy Mr West is back in the fashion scene with his second collection called 'Kanye West',and he will show it off at Paris Fashion Week on the 6th March.
We all know that Kanye West has a unique style to dressing and to most of us he is very influential to our fashion scene.
Kanye's 1st collection was in October,and he recently went up to twitter to make it clear that the name of his collection is not DW but its rather Kanye West (dont get it twisted), and he also told his 8 year long story about trying to make it in the fashion industry and to announce the creation of a new design company named DONDA. Kanye also made it clear that he has a lot invested in this dream of his and he tweeted by saying
"You guys might think I have some type of backing for my line but I don’t.
I did the first fashion show out of my own pocket and used the money I made touring to follow my passion.
Early 2011 … I moved to Paris and opened a small design studio… the language barrier was quite difficult…"

Chris Brown and Rihanna getting back together??

I've noticed something. Rihanna is lonely and she's crying out for a small taste of the love that Chris Brown is sharing with Karrueche.
Earlier this week she retweeted, "Just because I let you go doesn't mean I wanted to." When I read that it almost broke my heart. Real talk.

I hope I'm not alone when I say I used to look forward to the daily Rihanna and Chris Brown pictures that my favorite blogs posted. I'm not ashamed to admit, I got attached to ChRihanna when they stopped at KFC for a bite to eat. I could relate to them in ways I can't relate to Jay-Z and Beyonce.

I've been on line kissing my girl while waiting for a two piece and biscuit, and I can say that's when love is at its finest. That's when love is at its most pure, and seeing that moment between Rihanna and Chris was an added blessing as a fan.

Then tragedy struck and for two young lovers, love changed forever.

Rihanna said of that brutal night, “He had no soul in his eyes," then telling Diane Sawyer about what Chris Brown said after he hit her. “He’d say, ‘You hate me, don’t you?’ and I would lie and say, ‘No.’”

See I think she was lying when she said "I would lie..." saying the right thing at the right time, and who blames her? But I believe that when you love someone, you never stop loving them. I believe that Rihanna and Chris Brown had an unconditional love that never turned to HATE.

It's clear that she still loves Chris, so I say they should get back together!

They should stop lying to each other, admit they're in love. They both need to stop lying to the world, because they are the ones who need to love each other. Chris wants it all it back and Rihanna wants to find love again.

America needs to stop thinking Chris and Rihanna should be the model for young girls' love.

I'm so tired of people saying "What message will it give young girls if Chris and Rihanna get back together?" Well if parents are doing a good job raising their child, none whatsoever!

People, stop letting pop culture raise your children, and do some damn parenting! If not for no other reason then just so Chris Brown and Rihanna can get back together and find love one more time.

Don't we want it all back? Don't they deserve to be happy?

Luda's beef with Drake and Big Sean

The shots keep coming and Drake and Big Sean are in the line of fire.

Ludacris ain't taking no sh*t from the "newcomers" and he let off a little steam on his new track "Badaboom."

"Badaboom" is off Luda's new mixtape 1.21 Gigawatts, which he dropped earlier this week. After listening to the bonus track, there were a few bars that raised a few hip-hop head's eyebrows.


Apparently, Ludacris is setting the record straight after Drake and Big Sean made references accusing Ludacris of stealing Big Sean's "Supa Dupa" flow.

Drake references Luda's "My Chick Bad" delivery:


I don’t want to offend somebody…I hate that rappers picked that flow up. I wish they had left that for people that know how to use it. They go like, "It's a parade, MACY*S!"

When asked about the war of words by MTV's Sway, Big Sean said:


“Don’t get it wrong I’m not trying to diss Ludacris or nothing,” Big Sean said. “He’s a great MC. But even though that that style that got so overused, there was a lot of people who did it great and there was a lot of people who didn’t do it so great. People always ask me was you mad that people took that style from you. I’m like, ‘Nah, that went and shows me how far I can go as an artist.’ I feel like I changed hip-hop. I haven’t even dropped an album yet. So that goes to show me how powerful my mind is.”

That didn't sit well with Luda, so he dropped "Badaboom" in response to the naysayers.

The lyrics in question go a little something like this:


“Big badaboom/ luda's in this bitch/pussy n*ggas clear the room...Counterfeit rappers say I’m stealing their flows/ but I can’t steal what you never made up B*tch/ Y’all some duplicate rap cloning n*ggas/ I manufacture you hoes put on your makeup B*tch.”

Ludacris goes on to give a hip-hop history lesson to his intended targets, then he raps, "May not like the way I used it/ but you know you ain’t invent it, boy/do your research before you make a claim so bogus that’s disrespecting pioneers in the game."

On His Father:

So now Jay's going to be a father, and he's thinking about his own father. He's thinking about his roots in a nonmythological way, what he's carried with him from Marcy to here, what he's escaped. What's relevant about Adnis Reeves, Jay's dad, is not so much that he left when Jay was 11 but that he was present up until that time, long enough that when he left, it was worse than not having a father at all.

"If your dad died before you were born, yeah, it hurts—but it's not like you had a connection with something that was real," Jay says. "Not to say it's any better—but to have that connection and then have it ripped away was, like, the worst. My dad was such a good dad that when he left, he left a huge scar. He was my superhero."

"He was gone," Jay says. "He was not himself." Jay's mother, Gloria Carter, tried to push him to see his son; there were meetings scheduled that Reeves didn't show up for. They didn't see each other again until 2003.

"[I talked about] what it did to me, what it meant, asked him why. There was no real answer. There was nothing he could say, because there's no excuse for that. There really isn't. So there was nothing he could say to satisfy me, except to hear me out. And it was up to me to forgive and let it go."

On Himself Being a Father:

"Providing—that's not love," he says. "Being there—that's more important. I mean, we see that. We see that with all these rich socialites. They're crying out for attention; they're hurting for love. I'm not being judgmental—I'm just making an observation. They're crying out for the love that maybe they didn't get at home, and they got everything. All the material things that they need and want. So we know that's not the key."

"Of course, of course. One hundred percent."

"Yeah," Jay smiles. "Wouldn't that be great? That would be a great picture."
